Meet Virginia Green
Virginia Green was born on January 15, 1927, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, as the eldest of eighteen children. Because she was needed at home to help care for her younger siblings, she often said she attended school for only two days in her entire life. Though she had no formal education, Virginia lived a life marked by quiet strength, resilience, and deep compassion for others. Life became her classroom, and she learned through experience, responsibility, and perseverance. She taught herself to read her Bible, manage her finances, purchase land, build a home, and create a stable life for her family, becoming a respected and trusted presence in her community through hard work and determination.She dedicated her life to hard work—farming the land, raising livestock, selling homemade food and baked goods, and later serving in several roles at St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS). Yet what defined her most was not the work she did, but the way she cared for others. Virginia was known for her generosity, often supporting children in her community with a safe place to turn when they needed it most. She passed away in 2012 after a battle with breast cancer, leaving behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unwavering belief in the power of education.

Virginia Green often lived by the belief that “Ambition is a terrible thing to waste.” Despite having no formal education and only attending school for two days in her entire life, she understood the power of learning and the doors it could open for others.Throughout her life, Virginia quietly supported children in her community. She opened her home to students who needed a safe place to stay, provided meals, encouragement, school supplies, uniforms, and comfort during difficult times. She believed that no child’s potential should be limited by their circumstances, and she gave freely without expectation of anything in return.The Virginia Green Legacy Fund was created to carry that same spirit forward. Its mission is to support students with financial need who are pursuing their education, ensuring that lack of resources does not stand in the way of their future. Each scholarship represents Virginia’s lifelong belief that education is a pathway to opportunity, dignity, and transformation.

Eligibility Requirements
To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:✓ Currently enrolled in St. Elizabeth Technical High School (i.e., Grade 7-13)
✓ Demonstrate financial need.
✓ Be in good academic standing.
✓ Complete the scholarship application, including the required essay and all supporting documentation.
Scholarship Award
Recipients will receive tuition coverage for one academic year. Students are welcome to reapply in subsequent years, with continued consideration based on demonstrated financial need, academic standing, and the overall strength of their application.

Award Notification: Selected recipients will be notified prior to the start of the academic year via the contact information provided on their application.
